{#26} Don't Assume

I recently read a post where a mother tells the story of having had her older boys from China home 3 months when they had dinner with a Mandarin-speaking couple only to find out that the boys had no idea they were there to stay.  She was heartbroken to realize that they had woken up every day for almost 100 days wondering each morning, “Is today they day I go back?”

Don’t assume.

Most people we interact with assume Ty spent 2 1/2 years in an orphanage because he was adopted from overseas.  Nope.  Only foster care.

Don’t assume.

There is a stigma about older children waiting to be adopted that they have “problems.”  In some cases, the children didn’t enter care until they were older.  They spent the majority of their lives in a family situation.

Don’t assume.

Patrick was surprised to find out that I don’t think about the fact that I’m adopted on a very regular basis.  Nor do I have thoughts about my birthmother.

Don’t assume.

I think you get they idea.  Besides, you know what they say about assuming…
