{#30} Draggees

In adoption stories, more often than not, there is a dragger and draggee.  For whatever reason, spouses are rarely on the same page at the same time when it comes to adoption.

The good news for draggers is that your draggee has a good chance of catching up.  I talk to a lot of folks (mostly women) who want to adopt but feel disheartened because their spouse would never go for it.  While I can’t promise that all draggees get on board, it’s nice to be able to tell them that having a draggee doesn’t categorically mean they will never be able to adopt.

I have a friend whose husband swore they would never adopt.  Then they would never do special needs.  They currently have two internationally adopted children (one had minor, correctable special needs).

I have another friend whose husband also was not on board with adoption…at all.  They have one little girl from China and are currently in process to bring home a teenager from China.

I’m just saying.

If you’re the dragger, stop dragging and start praying.

If you were ever the draggee, what changed your mind?

Any other dragger/draggee stories out there?

  1. I confess – dad and I were side x side in our jouney to bring you guys home!  We just couldn't wait to be parents.  It's definitely been a journey – an adventure beyond what I ever could have imagined.  It's amazing how God has brought us through all the ups and downs and bumps in the road.  We love you guys!
