Time Flies…

…when you’re having fun/chasing 3 kids/just plain old busy.

Today marks 5 weeks home with Ty.  So what’s new you may ask.

He’s coming into his own turning into a opinion-holding, tantrum-throwing, mischevious, rambunctious two-year-old.  He has a special place in his heart for “Ee-ah” (aka Mia) and Nana.  He’s learned that chips, chocolate, and fruit snacks are much tastier than whole grain cereal, fruits, and veggies.  He’s picked up more signs like ‘brush teeth’  and ‘I Love You.’

We’re three kids into this parenting journey and I can not say enough about using ASL with your kids.  I  swore by it with PJ and Mia, and my soap box has only gotten bigger now that we’ve used it with Ty.  When I think that he could be screaming everytime he uses a sign, I think I would have resigned weeks ago.

Back to Ty.  He’s picking up spoken words, too.  He now uses ‘hungry’ independently (and liberally).  He imitates lots of words.  Pizza, tickle, coffee, and baby are some of them.  To my surprise, I recognized his first non-Oma Korean word the other day.  He said “aga” for baby.  I looked it up and that is, in fact, correct!  His comprehension has skyrocketed.  Now if only we could get him to acknowledge he understands before we have to threaten him with a timeout.  Did I mention he was two?

One of the biggest challenges is finding out what he likes will hold his attention for more than 10 seconds.  I know, I know…he’s a 2-year-old boy.  He prefers “real” things over toys…cell phones, vacuums, brooms, cameras.  Buttons are a big draw.  Balls do the trick sometimes but get dangerous in the house.  He enjoys pestering other people…especially tickling them.  Chasing him around on my hands and knees has been known to get a few laughs, too.  Mostly he enjoys exploring outside with some sliding in between.  Pain is never an obstacle.  Books, television, and puzzles may as well be non-existent.  He did stack and destroy block towers for a whole 3 minutes with me today.  But what he really wants is…drum roll, please…what Mia has. Everyday we see new aspects of his personality immerge.  It’s been quite the journey.
