Curriculum Overview

Here’s the plan so far.  Of course it’s subject (pun stumbled upon)  to change because we can 🙂

Subject

(These are ones required by our state)

PJ Mia
Bible (this is required by our oversight organization)
Language Arts Prima Latina

(We are basically using Latin to teach English Grammar)

We will also use some exercises from English Banana

Explode the Code Online

(We picked this up for free through the Homeschool Buyers Co-op through their Smartpoints system).

We will also be working through a modified version of the Sound of the Week curriculum.

Math Math Mammoth (Grade 3) We are delaying math as much as we can this year so we can concentrate on reading.  We will be doing mostly activities from Gobble Up Math and some Math Mammoth.
Science I am designing curriculum using CC’s memorization outline.  This fall will be Anatomy and the spring will be Chemistry.
Social Studies I am designing curriculum using CC’s memorization outline.  We will be studying U.S. History and Geography specifically but also memorizing all of Veritas Press’ timeline cards.
Art CC covers some material and I’m sure our history and science curriculum will have an art project here and there.
Music CC covers some material plus we will do all of our memory to song.  We may explore some music lessons as well.
Phys. Ed. This is the most up in the air but PJ is playing soccer this fall and Mia is taking ballet and tap.  There’s been discussion about ice skating/hockey lessons and I’m dying to join a fantastic (but pricey) gym that offers homeschool gym twice a week.
Health Creating curriculum that matches the other subjects we’re doing and keeping our state standards in mind.

We will also leverage our garden, canning, and all the cooking/baking our kids love to do.

We will also be learning Korean and keeping up with current events.  PJ will be learning to type as well.

  1. Looks like a great plan 🙂  If you're looking for a text to guide your health, I use Harcourt's Health and Fitness.  You can get a used textbook on Amazon for any grade 1-6 for a few dollars.  Also, I don't know if you want to do any math activities, but I loved Kathy Richardson's book 1 of Developing Number Concepts.  It explains what they need to learn and it's all hands on using unifix cubes.  Short and easy activities.  I was just reading a great quote from When Homeschooling Gets Tough this morning about how we are all different types of homeschoolers.  I'm a textbook/workbook kind of person for the most part, but I love hearing about friends and their plans who are so different from mine 🙂
