With only 24 weeks in the Classical Conversations year, the memory work is really a broad sweeping outline with plenty of room to fill in the gaps. As far as early American history goes, the biggest gap so far is Jamestown (the first permanent colony).
We just happened to be in the area this past weekend which worked out really well for us.
We hung out with the Powhatans, explored the fort, and boarded the Susan Constant. Did you know you can make rope from yuccas and canoes could be as large as 50 feet long and hold 40 people?
If you live anywhere near the east coast, I highly recommend a trip to the historic triangle (Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown). They have incredible deals for homeschoolers in September and February.
In Williamsburg, we participated in a special RevQuest just for homeschoolers where we helped save the Revolution from a plot to thwart it.
If you can’t get to the historic triangle in person, you can get there virtually.
