{Ethiopia} The View From Our Car

First, let me say that AWAA’s drivers and guides rock.  They’ve been amazingly accommodating, welcoming, kind, and friendly.  It’s about a 20 minute drive to anywhere so far so we’ve seen a lot.

This morning we went back to the TH to hang with the kids, meet with the pediatrician and psychologist, fill out some immigration paperwork, and deliver care packages and donations.  Unfortunately, Mia’s digestive system was in major rebellion this morning so she had to stay behind with Grandpa.

Fortunately, she was feeling much better by lunch so we headed to a very American restaurant for lunch.

On our way out, I snapped the following pictures of some familiar brands.

All of our driving rules we live and breath by in the States are merely loose suggestions in Ethiopia. Everyone goes when they want, how fast the want, and on which ever side of the road is most convenient in some cases. This traffic light is the only one we’ve seen so far. As Mia so aptly observed, “Things would much safer if there were lights.”

The most popular form of public transport seems to be blue taxis and mini-buses.

Most of the streets near our current guest home are lined with shops. They reminded Ty of the Big E. He wanted to know when the parade with candy was.

This the view as we drive the wrong way up a one way street (every time) to our guest home.

We are currently staying on what equates to the fourth floor. It’s the one with the open balcony door. Those steps are brutal in this altitude. The porters that carried all of our 600 pounds of luggage up were rock stars!

Thanks for everyone’s prayers and well wishes for the kids. Today was a better day, but they are all not quite themselves. This altitude sickness combined with jet lag is not for the faint of heart!
