OBX: Part 4

*NOTE* At an attempt to keep the amount of pictures in this post to a reasonable amount, I’ve only included highlights.  The more-complete set can be found on the Photos page.

At 6:30 Thursday morning, PJ and Patrick got up to see if crabbing was better in the morning.  They came home with 5 good-sized crabs and about a 5 pound large mouth.  So yes, morning must be better.

After Patrick filleted his bass, we headed to Roanoke Island for the day.  We spent time at Festival Park digging for fossils and sharks’ teeth, exploring the historic settlement and Elizabeth II replica, and meandering through the museum.

Then we headed to the Elizabethan Gardens.  PJ and Mia got to make an edible insect snack before we started our tour of the gardens.  Fortunately the gardens were mostly shady.  We saw lots of beautiful plants, flowers, and trees and even got to dig for fossils again.

Friday morning came early (5AM early) for PJ and Patrick who wanted one more chance to crab before we headed home.  Unfortunately the crabs weren’t awake, and they didn’t bring anything back.

We celebrated the Fourth of July Duck-style this morning starting with a parade, a passing rain shower (the only rain we’ve seen this week), and a party at the town park (watermelon, beverages, music, and dancing parade participants included).

The parade participants were having a little too much fun at the party.

We spent the afternoon in Corolla walking along the Currituck Banks National Estuarine Research Reserve Access Trail.  On the way back, we came across 3 deer (1 large injured, 1 medium, and 1 fawn).

Mary hosted one final get together Friday night–a leftover potluck supper.  It was good eating and great fun.  All three kiddos were asleep by the end of prayer time.

Final thought from Mia…”Why doesn’t everyone else pray like us?”
