Ironically, this year, I have no pictures of the things we did that were significant and symbolic but lots of pictures of the fun, completely secular things we did.
The most significant part of our Easter this year was our family Seder on Maundi Thursday, and I didn’t take a single picture as evidence. We did the whole nine yards three hours–the food, the readings, the prayers. The kids actually really enjoyed it. I think it will be a new family tradition.
Saturday was egg-dying.
Egg-dying is especially ritualistic in our house because it’s preparation for egg picking (more on that later).
Pops always has to dye the last egg using all the colors and making it the ugliest color he can concoct.
The other significant event I missed photographically was Nana making Resurrection Rolls with the kids. The rolled Jesus’ body (a marshmallow) in spices (cinnamon), wrapped it in burial cloth (crescent roll), and laid it in the tomb (oven). Twenty minutes later, the clothes were still there but Jesus was gone…just like Mary Magdelene found tomb!
Every Easter, we head to my aunt’s house for lunch, an easter egg hunt, and egg picking.
We count the eggs so we know if we got them all. That last one is always a doozy!
Each kid found their own little space to count loot.
What’s that? You’ve never heard of egg picking?!?! Well I figured since I’ve only met one other person in my life who did know and wasn’t related to me.
Basically you bang hard boiled eggs together (points to points and butts to butts) to see who has the best egg. Last, uncracked egg wins! My cousin Abi always seems to win.
Taking Ty to family gatherings is always a little dicey, but he’s found a buddy in Harley.
You know the dog and the bike 🙂
